Medical Clearance and Health Insurance for Burmese employees
All Burmese nationals wishing to gain employment in Thailand need to go take a medical clearance, including a blood test, and chest x-ray. This check can only be done in a state hospital.
Bigger hospitals such as in Phuket provide this service daily, but here in Krabi this health check for Burmese Nationals is only provided from time to time – perhaps once every two months. This is due to the hospital only filling a quota depending on provincial regulations regarding migrant labour health care.
Many big business operations take their staff to Phuket Hospitals for the convenience of getting things done quickly and easily. Remember that all Burmese working in Thailand need to renew their health clearance every 12 months. When this happens you have to think about the 1000‘s of Burmese who live and work in this area all trying to renew their health clearance at Krabi Hospital on only six different days a year.
I went there with my Burmese friends a few times, it wasn’t much fun.
The current fee for a Burmese health check is 600THB
1 year of government health insurance is 1300THB
